It was reported that Alcoa said last Thursday (May 28th) that it was considering letting go 534 employees at its San Ciprián aluminum smelter in Galicia, Spain, but the decision has not been made yet.
Alcoa said that San Ciprián aluminum smelter has failed to compete in the global market since it was facing continuous losses caused by high energy costs and low aluminum prices.
It was understood from Union representative Jose Antonio Zan, this plant currently has roughly 2,000 workers.
