The Aluminum Association gave recommendations to make the US Department of Commerce (USDOC)’s proposed Aluminum Import Monitoring and Analysis (AIM) system become a helpful tool for the full value chain in the US’ aluminum industry.
The association’s proposal to reform the AIM system included covering all products in Chapter 76 into the AIM’s scope, especially aluminum wire and cable products and aluminum scrap and secondary aluminum under HTS heading 7602, requiring filers to confirm whether the shipment uses a granted 232 product exclusion while applying license and the information should be compiled and reported at the AIM website, minimizing the burden for the AIM system’s reconciling estimated and declared prices, providing an alternative to the online application in case of a system outage and adjusting with US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) to reduce the possibility of system disruption, and aggregately reporting on the AIM website at least some products at the 10-digit HTS level.
