The North American October net new aluminum mill order index rose 11.9% from September, according to the Aluminum Association.
New mill orders increased 1.1% from October 2012, while the year-to-date index is down 3.5%, the group said in Friday report.
October plate orders fell 13.6% from September and were down 10.4% from October 2012 levels.
October sheet orders were up 16.7% from September and 5.8% above the year-ago period.
October orders of extruded products rose 11.3% from September and were up 10% from a year ago. Foil orders last month jumped 30.5% from Septemeber and were 16.7% above those of October 2012, the report said.
Orders of domestic can stock increased 15% from September and were down 10.3% from October 2012. October orders of export can stock fell 15.2% from September, but were up 20.2% from a year earlier.
The index is based on reports of new orders, less cancellations, received by 23 participants for the previous month.
