Downstream aluminium producer Aleris has raised the prices of its automotive body sheet products by up to 10%, after posting a net loss of $12 million in the second quarter, it said late last week.
“Aleris will increase pricing for automotive body sheet products up to 10% for new orders, effective immediately,” the company said. “These price increases apply only to non-contract pricing.” The decision follows that of rolled-products producer Novelis, which raised the price of its automotive sheet in Europe by €160 ($212) per tonne in July. The price change announcement directly followed the release of Aleris's second-quarter results, which revealed the slip from net income of $34 million in the second quarter of 2012.
