MONTEREY, Calif. (AP) -- Aluminum producer Century Aluminum Co. said Thursday that its second-quarter net income jumped as the company shipped more aluminum than it did a year earlier.
In the second quarter, Century Aluminum earned $24 million, or 24 cents per share, compared with $5.1 million, or 5 cents per share, in the second quarter of 2011. Net income allotted to common shareholders totaled $22.1 million.
Revenue climbed 27 percent to $366.3 million from $287.9 million a year earlier. Analysts polled by FactSet were hoping for $365 million.
The company shipped about 334 million pounds of aluminum during the quarter, compared with 319 million pounds last year.
Century Aluminum shares fell 34 cents, or 3.2 percent, to $10.45 in after-hours trading. The stock finished regular trading down $1.18, or 9.9 percent, at $10.79.
