Century Aluminum said its shipments for Q2 were 82,174t in the USA, up 7% from Q1. A total of 69,309t were shipped from its Iceland site, up 3% from Q1.
However, US production for the quarter was below expectations, driven by Hawesville's slower than anticipated return to full stable operations following the restart of its curtailed potline earlier this year.
The company estimates it incurred approximately $12M of costs and restart expenditures during the second quarter due to these production inefficiencies at Hawesville.
It estimated Q2 income of between $23 to $25M.
