Shipments of aluminum products from US service centers enjoyed double-digit growth in February, while Canadian shipments grew more slowly, the Metals Service Center Institute said Wednesday in its February Metals Activity Report.
February shipments of aluminum products from US service centers totaled 113,300 st, up 25.9% from February 2010 volumes. Aluminum shipments for the first two months of the year of 234,600 st were up 27.8% from a year ago.
US aluminum inventories of 358,100 st were up 37.3% from February 2010 and represented just over three months of supply at current shipping rates.
Canadian aluminum shipments of 10,900 st in February were up 5.7% from February 2010. Year-to-date shipments of 22,900 st were up 9.6% from a year ago.
Canadian inventories of aluminum products at the end of February totaled 30,400 st, 0.5% below year-ago inventories and equal to just under three months of supply at current shipping rates
The Metals Activity Report, produced by the Illinois-based Metals Service Center Institute and a third-party econometrics firm, McCoy, Scott & Co., is based on data from metals service centers in the US and Canada.
