Century Aluminum of Kentucky announced Tuesday that it will restart a potline at its Hawesville aluminum smelter and has scheduled a job fair next week to help fill 100 positions.
The job fair will take place Thursday, Dec. 16, in the administrative offices at the smelter, located just west of Hawesville on Kentucky 271-North in Hancock County, approximately 25 miles east of Owensboro.
The potline was idled in March 2009. Century said the process of restarting the potline is underway and is expected to be completed during the first quarter of 2011.
“The Hawesville smelter has an excellent reputation for safety and efficiency,” Century vice president and plant manager Matt Powell said in a statement. “We are very pleased to reintroduce these family-wage jobs with excellent benefits to the Hawesville community. We are seeking top candidates in all areas of smelter operations, including production, maintenance mechanics, electrical technicians and garage mechanics.”
The company indicated the 100 jobs would be filled through a combination of recalls of laid-off workers and new hires.
