MONTEREY, CA, May 07, 2010 (MARKETWIRE via COMTEX) -- The collective bargaining agreement between Century Aluminum of Kentucky, a wholly owned subsidiary of Century Aluminum Company (CENX 11.40, +0.07, +0.62%) , and the United Steelworkers, covering approximately 500 hourly workers at the Hawesville smelter, expired today. As negotiations between the two parties continue, represented employees remain on the job and the plant is operating normally.
"An economically sustainable Hawesville smelter is vital to the western Kentucky economy," commented Hawesville plant manager Matt Powell. "We continue to work towards an agreement that serves the best interests of all of our constituents."
