US fabricator Kaiser Aluminum reported higher shipments of aluminium products in both Q4 and full-year 2006 against year-earlier levels.
Q4 shipments rose to 123.4 million pounds from 116.7m in the year-earlier period, while full-year shipments rose to 523.1m pounds from 481.9m.
A sharper-than-normal year-end decline in extruded product shipments—no doubt a function of the slump in the US residential housing sector—was offset by a fourth consecutive quarterly record in heat treat plate shipments.
Jack A. Hockema, company chairman, president and CEO, noted: "The first phase of the Trentwood expansion reached full production during the fourth quarter, creating additional capacity which drove our improved results. The second phase of the expansion has become fully operational during the first quarter of 2007, and the entire project is expected to be fully operational in 2008."
