HANNIBAL, Ohio After a year-and-a-half-long strike and other complications, Ormet Corporation's southeast Ohio plant is producing aluminum again.
The head of the Pennsylvania-based company was on hand in Monroe County yesterday as the first new batch of aluminum was poured. Ormet C-E-O Ken Campbell was joined by union representatives, Ohio Governor-elect Ted Strickland and West Virginia Governor Joe Manchin.
Campbell says nearly 600 workers will receive paychecks on Friday. He says by April, Ormet hopes to have 950 people working at the plant in Hannibal.
The United Steelworkers strike ended months ago, but the reopening was delayed while Ormet negotiated how much it would pay for power.
