VHE provides solution to anode stub repair for aluminum smelters

Anode stub repair is a routine task for the rodding plant at all prebake aluminum smelters. Many different techniques have been applied with varying degrees of success.

VHE of Iceland has a proven technology which ensures mechanically and electrically secure repairs with reasonable capital investment and low operating costs. A customized band saw removes damaged stubs which are then replaced by an automatic MIG welder.

VHE's innovative automated stub saw machine uses band saw technology, resulting in energy conservation, noise reduction, cleaner cut surfaces and easy and inexpensive blade replacement. The saw cut stubs horizontally whilst the rod remains hanging in the overhead conveyor.

The VHE stub saw provides low energy consumption, low noise solution. The smooth and precise cut surfaces enable excellent control of the MIG welding process, producing mechanically strong joints with significantly lowered electrical resistance.
