WORK inspired by a two-year spell as an artist in residence at one of Northumberland's largest private employers has gone on show.
North East-based visual artist Jo Coupe spent the time at Rio Tinto Alcan's Lynemouth aluminium smelter in a public art and design initiative set up by Inspire Northumberland.
A week-long exhibition entitled Crystalline Energy is the culmination of Jo's time spent observing and working alongside the Smelter staff. The work reflects Coupe's exploration of the electromagnetic fields emanating from the smelter's potrooms.
She said: “What intrigues me about this environment is its ability to produce phenomena such as levitating coins, keys sticking rigidly from walls and cameras producing black images.”
The free exhibition is open until Friday between 10am-5pm. It is being shown in a converted shipping container in the car park area of Alcan's Lynemouth smelter.
