Ghana will restart its Volta Aluminum Smelter later this month after a two-year shutdown, the Ghanaian Times reported.
The factory, which has started a test-run of its machines, will have its power consumption subsidized by the government through tax exemptions, the Accra-based newspaper said, citing Minister of Energy Joe Oteng-Adjei.
Valco was shut down due to low aluminum prices on the world market and high electricity costs, it said.
