Aluminium giant notches up 14th accolade at regional innovation forum.
Dubai, United Arab Emirates: The innovative culture at Dubai Aluminium Company Limited ("DUBAL") as once again been demonstrated, this time by the receipt of the Technology Award in the 2010 Ideas.Arabia Idea of the Year competition. The award presentation ceremony formed part of the 5th Ideas.Arabia International Conference, which took place at Grand Hyatt Dubai from 25 to 27 April, under the patronage of H H Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, President of the Dubai Department of Civil Aviation and Chairman of Emirates Group. DUBALDUBAL was the Platinum Sponsor of the event.
The DUBALDUBAL suggestion that took the honours was "Fabricate efficient multiple-use table pre-heater", submitted by A K Sadiq Basha, B C Rao and A Asi of Casthouse Services. The suggestors proposed developing an in-house designed pre-heater that could be used for multiple billet casting tables -- a concept that would prevent frequent damages, increase the life of the refractory, reduce gas consumption, increase efficiency, occupy less space, eliminate unsafe conditions and reduce the pre-heat time by 40 per cent.
Commenting on DUBALDUBAL's continuing award-winning performance at Ideas.Arabia, Abdulla Kalban (President & CEO) said, "This independent recognition highlights both level of creativity within our organization and the inherent potential of inviting employees to engage with our company. It also proves that DUBALDUBAL has immense potential for the future and confirms that which we have always believed, namely that our employees are our greatest asset."
Currently ranked as one of the world's largest aluminium smelters, DUBALDUBAL is not only the largest producer of primary aluminium in the Gulf, but also the leading aluminium player in the region. Moreover, DUBALDUBAL is widely regarded as the UAE's industrial flagship -- the company being rated by many as a role model in every aspect of its business. For example, DUBALDUBAL is a regional pioneer of employee involvement programmes through its award-winning Suggestion Scheme, established in May 1981. A large number of organisations, both locally and internationally, have used the DUBALDUBAL Suggestion Scheme as a model for developing similar programmes.
The success of the DUBALDUBAL Suggestion Scheme since its inception 29 years ago has been remarkable: the cumulative savings arising from implemented suggestions has reached almost AED 97 million over this period. During 2009 alone, 12,000 suggestions were submitted to the scheme, of which 9500 were implemented and awarded, together giving an audited savings of AED 12 million. The scheme also achieved 100 per cent participation from eligible employees in 2009, for the fourth year in a row.
