will again participate in the 10th annual Careers Show Exhibition ("Careers UAE"), which takes place at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition centre from 28 to 30 March 2010. The event - which enables UAE Nationals with qualifications in diverse fields of expertise to meet directly with recruiters and hiring managers; as well as to seek out various training and career opportunities - provides an excellent platform for raising the corporate profile of DUBALDUBAL and attracting the interest of high calibre candidates for recruitment.

Reflecting the company's acknowledged status as the UAE's industrial flagship and an employer of choice in the region, DUBALDUBAL will have a large exhibition stand in Za'abeel Hall, where aspirant young UAE Nationals can obtain detailed information about the company and the career opportunities offered. As in previous years, there will be computers on the stand, allowing students to register their interest in DUBALDUBAL and submit their resumé for consideration.

To be in line with the vision of H H Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Deputy Ruler of Dubai, UAE Minister of Finance, Chairman of DUBALDUBAL, Emiratization strategies and policies have been established in DUBALDUBAL by the support of the top Management to ensure that Nationals are developed to take on challenging roles with increased responsibilities within the organization. DUBALDUBAL Human Resources department has adopted H H Sheikh Hamdan's vision and executed various strategies and tactics to attract talented Nationals and modes to retain them. "We hope to entice young UAE Nationals to apply for employment at DUBALDUBAL, where they will benefit from the career growth opportunities offered by our ongoing industrial journey. Accordingly, the information will be captured directly into our database, which we use to identify potential talent by specifying our organisational requirements according to age group, background, qualifications and skills," explains Marwan Al Sawaleh (General Manager: Human Resources). "In 2009, the DUBALDUBAL stand at Careers UAE attracted job applications from more than 2,000 candidates, enabling us to recruit several UAE Nationals during the course of the year. We are confident of attracting even more applications this year."

Applicants will have the opportunity to explore systematic processes implemented in DUBALDUBAL to develop their skills, awareness, knowledge and attitude that enable them to perform a job to the required standards.

"We hope to entice young UAE Nationals to apply for employment at DUBALDUBAL, where they will benefit from the career growth opportunities offered by our ongoing industrial journey. Accordingly, the information will be captured directly into our database, which we use to identify potential talent by specifying our organisational requirements according to age group, background, qualifications and skills," Al Sawaleh explains.

Al Sawaleh adds that DUBALDUBAL is a regular and active participant at the annual Careers UAE exhibition. "The show is integral component to the activities undertaken by our National Programmes & Development department, the overall mandate of which is to increase competent UAE Nationals in DUBALDUBAL. This is fulfilled through targeted recruitment, training, professional development and active succession planning. In fact, DUBALDUBAL uniquely offers skills development, training and employment opportunities to UAE Nationals at all levels in the secondary and tertiary education spectrum."

He explains that the company offers several training and career development programmes for UAE Nationals, including pre-employment courses in several disciplines, a work placement programme for tertiary students, a comprehensive graduate training programme, a scholarship scheme and a development pool that aids in career growth and succession planning. "Dynamic career opportunities are offered in various areas of expertise, giving UAE Nationals - whether school leavers, diploma-holders or university graduates (holders of higher diplomas, bachelors, masters and doctoral degrees) - abundant personal choices across the full employment spectrum," explains Al Sawaleh. "Emphasis is generally placed on engineering, business administration, marketing, information technology, human resources and accounting/finance."

The aluminium giant's nationalisation efforts deliver excellent results. At the end of 2009, the proportion of UAE Nationals among DUBALDUBAL's total workforce of approximately 4,000 employees amounted to 22 per cent. Currently, the proportion of UAE National representation at senior management level is above 70 per cent. These statistics compare very favourably against Dubai's average industry Emiratisation level of 4 per cent

Employee retention levels are also high, with approximately 24 per cent of the employee base having served at DUBALDUBAL for ten to twenty years and 10 per cent boasting service tenure longer than twenty years. "There is a general consensus that DUBALDUBAL is 'a great place to work'," says Al Sawaleh. "We nurture a positive environment of mutual respect, where people are able to develop and grow in their personal capacity. This makes many people aspire to work at DUBALDUBAL. The fact that we offer attractive remuneration packages, including diverse value-adding benefits, is of relatively less importance."

owns and operates the world's largest modern aluminium smelter with a captive power station. Built on a 480-hectare site in Jebel Ali, the complex's major facilities comprise a one million metric tonne per annum primary aluminium smelter, a 2,350 megawatt power station (at 30°C), a large carbon plant, casthouse operations, a 30 million gallon per-day water desalination plant, laboratories, port and storage facilities.

The Jebel Ali site has the capacity to produce more than one million metric tones of high quality finished aluminum products a year, in three main forms: foundry alloy for automotive applications; extrusion billet for construction, industrial and transportation purposes; and high purity aluminium for the electronics and aerospace industries. More than 300 customers are served in at least 45 countries predominantly in the Far East, Europe, the ASEAN region, the Middle East and Mediterranean region, and North America.

The company holds ISO 9001, ISO/TS 16949, ISO/IEC 27001, ISO/IEC 20000, ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 certification at its Jebel Ali site; and has twice won the Dubai Quality Award in the Production and Manufacturing sector (1996 and 2000). More than 4,100 skilled operators, tradesmen, administrative staff, technicians, professionals and managers are employed by DUBALDUBAL. Some 23 per cent of the total workforce is drawn from the local population, with UAE nationals holding over 70 per cent of Senior Management positions.

DUBALDUBAL also holds a 50 per cent share in Emirates Aluminium ("EMAL"), a green-field smelter development at Al Taweelah, Abu Dhabi. Commissioning of the first phase of EMA (comprising a 756,000 metric tonne per annum smelter plus associated power generation, reduction material and casting infrastructure) began in December 2009.

Driven by a quest for continuous improvement and ongoing innovation, DUBALDUBAL has invested substantial sums of money over the past 25 years in developing advanced reduction cell technologies that not only improve productivity but also reduce the operations' impact on the environment through improved energy efficiency and minimized emission levels. This has culminated most recently in DUBALDUBAL's proprietary DX Technology - a UAE flagship technology that operates at 370kA plus and therefore ranks among the best in its class. Developed in 2006, DX Technology has been implemented in a dedicated 40-cell potline at DUBALDUBAL's Jebel Ali smelter complex; and is being installed at EMAL, which will ultimately produce 1.5 million metric tones per annum using DUBALDUBAL's DX Technology.

Entirely state-owned, DUBALDUBAL is one of the largest non-oil contributors to the economy of Dubai and is widely regarded as the industrial flagship of the UAE. Having begun to tap metal at the Jebel Ali site in November 1979, DUBALDUBAL celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2009.
