MOSCOW, Jan 24 (PRIME-TASS) -- Russian aluminum giant UC RUSAL expects aluminum sales in Russia and the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) to increase 22% on the year to 979,000 tonnes in 2011, the company said Monday.
The company attributed the projected growth to continuing market recovery as well as the development of the machine building, construction, and packing industries.
At the same time, the company expects a decrease in aluminum exports by 100,000–150,000 tonnes in 2011, RUSAL said without providing exact figures.
RUSAL also said that it had estimated aluminum consumption in Russia and other countries of the CIS at 800,000 tonnes in 2010, up from 531,000 tonnes in 2009, adding that it expects an annual increase in aluminum demand at 8% within 2011–2015.
RUSAL accounts for about 10% of global aluminum output and 10% of alumina output. In 2009, RUSAL’s aluminum production decreased 11% on the year to 3.9 million tonnes.
