Oct 22 (Reuters) - Russian tycoon Vladimir Potanin sent a letter to RUSAL (RUAL.PA) chairman Viktor Vekselberg offering to buy the aluminum giant's roughly 25 percent stake in Norilsk Nickel (GMKN.MM), a source told Interfax news agency.
The source at Potanin's Interros investment company, which also holds about 25 percent of the world's largest nickel and palladium miner, said it would pay $9 billion for the stake together with unnamed partners.
In the past RUSAL has said it will not sell its stake.
