Opening an office in Vietnam is in line with the company’s strategy to expand worldwide. RUSAL is aggressively studying the opportunities for widening its raw-material base and creating sources to produce competitive electric power required for aluminum plants’ construction.
With its enormous energy potential and rich bauxite reserves, Vietnam is of interest to RUSAL as the region for possible promotion of quite a number of new energy and metal projects and creation of complete-cycle production, starting from the bauxite development to producing primary aluminum and alloys.
Yevgeny Volosov, who has been working in the alumina division of RUSAL since 2004, will head the company’s office in Vietnam.
Russia’s RUSAL, SUAL and Swiss Glencore announced March 27, 2007 the consolidation of assets and creation of world biggest aluminum and alumina producer - United Company RUSAL. Incorporated in Cyprus, RUSAL unites four bauxite producing enterprises, ten alumina plants, 14 aluminum plants and three foil rolling mills. The assets of the giant could be found in five continents of 17 countries of the world.
The annual turnover of UC RUSAL is estimated at roughly $12 billion; the company employs over 100,000.
Oleg Deripaska owns 66 percent in UC RUSAL, SUAL holders have 22 percent and Glencore controls 12 percent. The plants of UC RUSAL produced over 3.9 million tons of primary alumina in 2006, i.e. roughly a sixth of its global production.
