Violence flared up once more at the weekend and Guinean President Lansana Conte declared a state of emergency late Monday as the country's major trade unions called for him to step down after his apparent violation of a power-sharing agreement.
The Rusal refinery produces 780,000 metric tons a year of alumina.
"We have undertaken all security measures aiming at protecting our employees, but at this stage we do not plan to evacuate our staff," Rusal's Kurochkina said.
Earlier Tuesday, global diversified miner Rio Tinto PLC (RTP) said it had evacuated 16 of its staff from Guinea due to escalating violence there.
