Mozal, an aluminum smelter, planned to increase its aluminum production by 40,000 tons to 578,000 tons in the current fiscal year, which started in June 2023. The increase was due to the improved operations, and the aluminum export level would be also affected by the company’s recent investment.
Mozal announced its plan to replace the previous electricity supply of South Africa's state power utility Eskom with the supply of Electricidade de Mo?ambique (EDM), Mozambique’s state-owned national power utility.
The smelter needs 950 megawatts to support its annual aluminum production of more than 560,000 tons.
