Peter Knight, CEO of Jamaica’s National Environment and Planning Agency (NEPA), announced that the Natural Resources Conservation Authority (NRCA) has approved Noranda Jamaica Bauxite Partners for 1,324 hectares of land mining in Saint Ann, Jamaica.

After two impromptu meetings last week and taking into account all the difficulties and concerns, NRCA made its final determination on December 31, 2021. The land mining aroused public anger, which reduced the allowed mining area.
Knight implied that the damage to the environment will be light as the mining area is principally secondary woods and farms.
