American Industrial Partners (AIP), an American private equity firm, said it has acquired ownership of the aluminum smelter located in Loon-Plage, France, Aluminium Dunkerque, and two other French establishments after commodities tycoon Sanjeev Gupta’s GFG Alliance defaulted debt on outstanding loans.
Aluminium Dunkerque, founded in 1991, is the largest primary aluminum smelter in Europe. The smelter’s main products include aluminum slabs and ingots, used in the transport, automotive, aerospace, packaging, building, and construction industries.
