Hydro announced on June 22 that its Hydro Husnes aluminum plant in western Norway has returned to full operation.
This hydropower-based primary aluminum plant has an annual production capacity of 195,000 tons. The B line, one of the production lines at the plant, had been idled since 2009 due to the financial crisis and was restarted in November 2020.
According to Hydro, the firm decided in 2017 to invest NOK 1.5 billion to upgrade and restart the B line. It has now restarted electrolysis cells for aluminum production, and the plant is finally back to full operation after being idle for more than ten years.
