Tomago Aluminium, the largest aluminum smelter in Australasia, announced to support the federal government’s plan in building a government-run natural gas power generation plant as long as their smelter gets sufficient supply of electricity in return to this support when the coal-fired plant gets shut down.
Tomago Aluminium also asked the federal government for the supply of fossil fuel for them to continue the operation once the coal-fired plant gets shut down in three years.
The firm said that the power price will surge, and power shortages will be more common due to the transition to renewable energy, but they will still support the government’s plan if no other power options are available.
