The European Aluminum submitted a white paper to the European Commission (EC) to reflect the negative impact of subsidized imports on Europe and ask the EC to take actions against imports from China.
According to EC’s report, some aluminum smelters have received subsidies of up to US$70 billion, most of which related to Chinese aluminum smelters, resulting in an obvious increase in China’s share in the aluminum production market, from 2004’s 11% to the current 57%.
Therefore, the European Aluminum said that the flood of Chinese products into Europe decreased the competitiveness and threatened the European aluminum industry’s future.
Besides, Gerd G?tz, Director General of European Aluminum, said that China’s aluminum industry could totally replace the European aluminum industry if the EU didn’t take actions directly.
