The Business Development Corp. of the Northern Panhandle announced Monday that a major multi-state corporation plans to invest in the renovation of the 140,000-square-feet of space in the Beech Bottom Industrial Park.
“This afternoon’s announcement of Jupiter Aluminum’s investment in the Beech Bottom Industrial Park is a testament to the economic growth and industrial renaissance that is occurring in the Northern Panhandle and the importance of federal partners like the U.S. Economic Development Administration (who have awarded a $2.6 million grant to repurpose this facility),”?said U.S. Sen. Shelley Moore Capito, R-W.Va.
Jupiter Aluminum, headquartered in Des Plains, Ill., will work with the BDC to improve vacant space in the former Wheeling Corrugating Steel plant, now the Beech Bottom Industrial Park, to grow their current business, as well as secure additional businesses and industries operating throughout the United States and internationally.
Jupiter Aluminum recycles aluminum scrap into coils destined to the primary markets of building and construction, recreational vehicles and license plates.
“While the building and the equipment originally attracted Jupiter Aluminum to Brooke County,”?said Pat Ford, executive director of the BDC, in a press release.?“Jupiter Aluminum knew that our labor force was a perfect match for their industry and the location has proven so successful that they are investing, hiring, and expanding.”
Beech Bottom Mayor Becky Uhlly said the village has come full circle with the ownership of the plant once again being manufacturing and having local ownership by the BDC and Jupiter Aluminum.
“This is wonderful news for our village and a positive sign for our future,”?she said.
U.S. Sen. Joe Manchin III, D-W.Va., gave his support for the investment, as well.

“By 2020, the vision of Jupiter Aluminum is that Beech Bottom and Brooke County will see an impact of more than $15 million of investments and more than 60 jobs created,”?said Manchin.
President of Jupiter Aluminum Paul-Henri Chevalier said, in a press release, that the business is very happy to be a part of the community, and looks forward to continue expanding Jupiter Aluminum.
“Jupiter Aluminum was born on the remains of a bankrupted company and since 1992 kept growing in the United States, so we know what it takes to revive and grow a business,”?said Chevalier.?“Beech Bottom comes as a natural expansion of our painting capabilities. The northern panhandle’s extensive experience in manufacturing has allowed us to increase the plant personnel six times since its humble beginning in 2014.”
Brooke County Commission President Tim Ennis agreed with Chevalier.
“Jupiter Aluminum — you will not find a work force that works as hard, as long, and be as dependable as the workforce in Brooke County,”?said Ennis.
“In addition to expanding at the Beech Bottom location, we are equally excited that Jupiter Aluminum will work with the BDC to move forward on a $3.2 million USEDA-funded renovation project that will adapt the former steel mill into one of the most marketable and ideally situated industrial parks on the Ohio River,”?said A.J. Thomas, Brooke County commissioner and BDC executive board member.
