Bauxite mining and screening have resumed near Campbell Town as a shipment from Bell Bay looms.
Australian Bauxite Limited said the operations at its Bald Hill mine were to prepare for a cargo of cement-grade bauxite made to the customer’s specifications.
It said the contract for mining, processing and blending at the mine site was awarded to Tasmanian contractor Hazell Bros.
Australian Bauxite said it had started contract negotiations for transporting the product to the port.
The company has also been selling fertiliser grade bauxite.
It said sales would continue through the year and were growing steadily “as the fertiliser product achieves wider market approval”.
“The customer and ABx (Australian Bauxite) worked together on developing this product, which ABx believes has potential for other high-value markets,” it said.
“It produces an activated granule with potential to absorb chemicals.
“Samples have been sent to several research centres.”
It said the customer’s trucks would collect the fertiliser product in coming weeks.
Australian Bauxite has other tenements in Tasmania, New South Wales and Queensland.
Its bauxite is capable of being processed into alumina at low temperature.
