A subsidiary of scandal-hit metal maker Mitsubishi Materials has lost the quality certification on its aluminum products. The move comes after Mitsubishi Aluminum was found to have falsified inspection data for aluminum plates.
Officials authorized to certify compliance with the Japanese Industrial Standards label say the products were manufactured at the company's factory in Shizuoka Prefecture.
They say there was a serious breach in quality control at the plant. They say workers conducted random checks of products haphazardly, and also recorded the strength of metal products without measuring some of the samples.
Mitsubishi Aluminum is the first subsidiary of Mitsubishi Materials involved in the data fabrication scandal to have its certification revoked.
