Sierra Aluminum Co. is planning an expansion project in mid-2014 that will include the addition of a UBE Extrusion Press to complement its six current presses, according to an Aug. 27 company release. The 2,500 ton single-action short stroke extrusion press will be installed in Sierra's newest building in Fontana, Calif.
The company is planning for more than 5,000 man hours over the next eight months, to implement excavation, concrete foundations, electrical, compressed air and natural gas systems for the installation of the press and requisite handling equipment. Handling equipment for the new press includes run-out tables and aging ovens provided by Granco-Clark, Sierra reports.
The press will increase Sierra's available capacity by up to 16 million pounds of extrusions per year, as well as increase the company's workforce by 20 to 25 new employees.
