Brazil’s exports of bauxite presented a sharp increase in July, whereas alumina and aluminium trade fell, according to the country’s trade ministry.
All transactions were on a fob basis. Bauxite Bauxite exports from Brazil shot up by 218% year-on-year in July to 949,860 tonnes after increased purchases by the USA and Canada. Export revenues totalled $34.60 million, compared with $18.49 million a year earlier. The USA increased its imports to 463,872 tonnes, from 117,465 tonnes in July 2012. Canada raised its purchases to 267,894 tonnes, from 54,488 tonnes in the same comparison. Ireland also reported an increase in bauxite shipments, purchasing 166,993 tonnes last month, compared with 113,288 tonnes.
