Workers at Compagnie des Bauxites de Guinee, which is owned by Rio Tinto Plc (RIO), Alcoa Inc. (AA) and the West African nation’s government, halted a two-day strike to hold wage talks, said union leader Sekou Oumar Ly Diallo.
The protest, which has workers calling for a 50 percent pay rise, was stopped at the request of President Alpha Conde, Diallo said by phone today from Conakry, the capital.
Work at the plant did not stop during the strike, said Director-General Kemoko Toure by phone.
