The order is for new investments in Stena Aluminum’s smelter in Älmhult, Sweden. Nederman will supply the plant with solutions for the filtration of the fumes generated in the smelting of returned aluminium products.
Mr Staffan Persson MD of Stena Aluminum said that “Our operations are important especially for the environment but there is also a growing industrial demand for recycled aluminium. It is therefore a major advantage that we are now almost doubling our production. The investments mean that the impact we have on the environment, despite increased production will be lower than it is today and we will also remove the local discomfort of ours from production.”
The smelter is the only one in Sweden that produces aluminium from recycled materials and Stena Aluminium is investing around SEK 200 million in the years to come in order to upgrade the plant both environmentally and in terms of capacity.
The purification of the flue gases will be carried out in several stages, with the first additive bicarbonate and activated carbon being used to react with acidic components and dioxins. Then the gases will pass through the two filter systems from Nederman separating dust and reaction products. The purified gases will via a combustion chamber be directed to the chimney. The project is run by the Swedish sales company Nederman Sverige AB and the filter systems are manufactured by Nederman’s production site in Friesenheim, Germany.
Mr Sven Kristensson CEO of Nederman said that “We are very proud to receive this order from Stena Aluminium, it is a good example of our expertise in industrial air filtration. The order also shows that Nederman’s market offering has become stronger through the acquisition of Dantherm Filtration.”
