Gulf News reported that Middle East is emerging as a significant new primary aluminum producer and the regional industry has just started to realize its full potential, according to a top official of Qatalum.
Mr Jan Arve Haugan CEO of Qatalum said that in this regard, Qatalum, a JV of Qatar Petroleum and Norway’s Hydro is one of the three new aluminum projects in the Gulf region to have started since 2008 and it is growing into a sustainable economic catalyst that is at the heart of turning Qatar’s gas energy into a valuable commodity.
He said at the function which brought together executives from aluminium manufacturers, technology providers, power generation manufacturers, traders, users, raw material producers, equipment manufacturers, services organization, banks, suppliers and government officials from all over the world that for the past 2 years Qatalum has been expanding and working on improving its status in the aluminum industry.
The thrust of the event was to celebrate the success of the aluminum industry in the Gulf and to build and strengthen the relationships between regional and international organizations that have aluminum business interest in the Gulf.
