Guinea, the world's biggest supplier of the aluminium ore bauxite, has completed a transition to civilian rule after a presidential election won by veteran opposition campaigner Alpha Conde.
Guinea's successful election could set a powerful example to the region, where civil war, armed power grabs and accusations of rigged elections have become common.
Guineans and foreign observers also see it as a first step towards it winning back foreign aid and ensuring its mineral wealth benefits its 10 million people.
Conde has named his cabinet and has said he plans to revise the mining code to boost the state share in projects.
