It is reported that domestic aluminum market stayed firm in the week December 20 to 24. Price remained at CNY 16,300 per tonne to CNY 16,500 per tonne for Chalco aluminum ingot. The material was traded at CNY 16,020 per tonne to CNY 16,170 per tonne in Shanghai, CNY 16,010 per tonne to CNY 16,190 per tonne in Wuxi and CNY 16,190 per tonne to CNY 16,320 per tonne in Nanhai.
Spot market stays weak last week. Traders held off sales, leading to stagnant transactions. Downstream buyers were unwilling to replenish materials due to liquidity concern in the year end, which further decreased market sales.
Some electrolytic aluminum producers halted production during the energy saving and emission reduction campaign and have not fully resumed operation. Low aluminum ingot price, rising power price and increasing production cost have postponed the restart plans.
