In an effort to help clean up the community, the A. Vito Martinez Ecology Club is launching its Great American Can RoundUp campaign
A nationwide program the RoundUp is designed to bring schools, businesses, and the community together by collecting and recycling aluminum cans by Earth Day which is April 22. Martinez’ goal is to collect over 100,000 aluminum cans.
Proceeds from the collection and sale of these aluminum cans will stay in the community and be used to fund other environmental activities within the Ecology Club.
The Great American Can RoundUp is sponsored by the Can Manufacturers Institute, the national trade group for the can industry, and its suppliers.
The Ecology Club has set up a can trailer in the back parking lot of the school at 590 Belmont in Romeoville. The trailer is available between 8 a.m. and 9 p.m. Community members who normally bring their cans to a metal recycler may still bring the receipt for their donation to Martinez so it can be counted as part of the goal to recycle 100,000 cans.
