HA NOI — The Viet Nam National Coal and Mineral Industries Group （Vinacomin） has announced that its bauxite mining and processing complex in the Central Highlands province of Lam Dong will begin commercial production in April.
The plant will refine the ore into alumina for sale to aluminium producers. Storage systems for the toxic red mud produced during the refining process are said to be safe.
So far, about 88 per cent of the VND1.14 trillion （US$59 million） complex has been completed. Construction of the refinery is on schedule despite unfavourable weather.
The complex is expected to hold a test run early in the new year and produce the first commercial alumina in April.
Two new central region resorts launched
DA NANG — Fusion Management Viet Nam Co has launched two new beach resorts - the five-star Fusion Maia Da Nang in central Da Nang City and the four-star Boutique Hoi An in neighbouring Quang Nam Province.
Fusion Maia will offer a special US$260 daily rate for its pool suites and spa-and-beach villas until December 20.
At Boutique Hoi An, all rooms face the sea and some have direct access to the beach from private terraces. It has a promotion rate of $100 a night until mid-December.
Nissan opens auto dealership in Da Nang
DA NANG — Nissan Viet Nam has opened its first dealership in central Viet Nam - the city of Da Nang.
The 12,000 square metre showroom and workshop cost VND75 billion （US$3.8 million）.
Nissan's general director Choo Hong Chow said the dealership will extend market share in one of the most competitive auto markets in the region.
He said the company would open a dealership in HCM City by the end of the year, bringing the number of dealers in Viet Nam to four.
Vietnam Airlines offers flights to Myanmar
HCM CITY — Viet Nam Airlines launched a direct air route from HCM City to Yangon, Myanmar on Monday.
The new service operates every Monday, Friday and Sunday using Airbus A320 planes.
The airline will offer one-way promotional tickets for VND1.95 million （US$100） until December 25. The normal rate ranges from $300-$480.— VNS
