Eight metal stocks rose 0.32% to 3.07% at 11:34 IST on BSE, as LMEX, a gauge of six metals traded on the London Metal Exchange rose 0.43% to 3,038.60 in London on Wednesday, 7 July 2010.
The BSE Metal index was up 1.76% to 14,669.13. It outperformed the Sensex, which was up 1.26% to 17,690.64.
The BSE Metal index underperformed the market over the past one month till 7 July 2010, rising 1.52% as compared to the Sensex's return of 4.11%. It had also underperformed the market in the past one quarter, declining 22.39% as compared to the Sensex's 2.78% fall.
National Aluminium Company (up 0.32% to Rs 426.55), Jindal Steel & Power (up 0.91% to Rs 630), Hindustan Zinc (up 1.29% to Rs 956.05), Steel Authority of India (up 1.55% to Rs 193.05), Hindalco Industries (up 1.59% to Rs 144.20), Tata Steel (up 1.95% to Rs 484.10), Sesa Goa (up 2.03% to Rs 354.20) and Sterlite Industries (up 3.07% to Rs 164.25) edged higher.
