Emirates Aluminium (Emal) opened an onsite specialized training facility today that will allow equipment suppliers to train operators and technicians on the processes, procedures and maintenance of the equipment they supply.
Emal also enlarged its onsite mobile equipment training facility to double its original size. The facility allows employees to obtain the required driving licenses necessary to operate heavy machinery within the plant.
Further, with the full support of Dubai Aluminium (Dubal), Emal inaugurated a newly revamped and more sophisticated purpose-built technical training centre at the Dubal site this month - allowing Emal to train its employees within a fully operational aluminium smelter.
Duncan Hedditch, Emal CEO, said: 'Emal, like all modern complex organizations, depends heavily on the quality of its staff for its business performance. Top quality training and development programmes are essential if we are to achieve the level of performance we are aiming for.'
During peak construction, Emal will generate 14,000 jobs. Once fully operating, the plant will employ approximately 2000 people, with about 30% of these positions being top-tier, highly skilled engineer and managerial roles.
'It's one thing to create a job. It's an entirely different thing to give someone the tools and training they need to build a successful career. The reason we invest so heavily in our training programmes is to ensure we're creating quality jobs right here in Abu Dhabi,' said Hedditch.
