Columbia Falls Aluminum Factory closing

More economic hardship news to report in the Flathead -- Columbia Falls Aluminum Factory says they are shutting their doors. The closure will happen at the end of July, and 90 employees will be out of work. The aluminum company says they have been expecting the closure, but hoping that it wouldn't come down to that. This past December, they announced plans to close in February, but an agreement with Bonneville Power helped keep the plant open longer by reducing power costs for the company. CFAC, the nearly 55-year-old Columbia Falls based company, is hurting from a market that has a huge supply of metals and very little demand. As a result, the price of aluminum is at a near 25-year low, yet the prices for their raw materials remain high. The company's manager of external affairs, Haley Beaudry, says they couldn't have done anything to prevent this. He says they can't keep operating when they don't see any relief in sight. source:www.montanasnewsstation.com
