Dubai: Dubai Aluminium Company (Dubal), one of the world's largest producers of aluminium, has invested Dh900 million in six years in Environment Health and Safety (EHS) measures, the state-owned company said in a statement yesterday.
This highlights the company's continuous focus on the best safe practices of international standards and workplace excellence at its sprawling smelter.
Dubal recently organised its Power and Desalination EHS Campaign 2006 with strong participation by global companies and leading local industry players.
"Dubal has always emphasised workplace safety as a first priority and this is in total adherence with the directives of Shaikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, UAE Minister for Finance and Industry and chairman of Dubal," said CEO Abdullah Bin Kalban.
A total of 35 participants representing prominent global and regional companies and the Dubai Police along with Dubal taff were part of the five-day campaign.
"With our total production capacity growing from a modest 150,000 tonnes annually in 1979 to 861,000 tonnes in 2006 through several expansion programmes, it has become imperative for us to look for various ways to increase safety awareness among the employees, suppliers and contractors," said Abdul Wahab Al Madani, manager of power and desalination maintenance, and chairman of the P&D EHS campaign 2006.
