The Tadaz aluminium smelter, the only aluminium producer in Central Asia, increased production of primary aluminium 9.7% year-on-year to 309,385 tonnes in January-September 2006, Muboraksho Mashkhulov, head of a department at the Economy and Trade Ministry, said at a Monday press conference.
Tajikistan exported more than 301,000 tonnes of aluminium in the first nine months, compared with around 276,000 in the same period last year, he said. Tajikistan imported 604,800 tonnes of alumina in the period, an increase of 33,400 tonnes from the same period last year, he said.
"Tadaz is receiving stable supplies of raw materials and is studying the issue of receiving 2 million tonnes of Indian alumina," Mashkhulov said.
