Japanese diecaster Kyowa Casting's first overseas plant in Thailand is producing at a rate of 150 mt/month, 14 months after it was started up in May 2012, company president Tatsuhiro Ii said Tuesday.
"The Thai plant when running fully will output 300-400 mt/month. The plant has more room for further expansion and if expanded, its capacity can go up to 600 mt/month," Ii said, without providing a timeline.
"Demand for diecast products is surging in Thailand as we are constantly starting production of new [automotive] parts. But the country has enough secondary aluminum alloy supplies and prices have held stable despite the surge in demand," Ii said. The plant sources its aluminum alloys from two local suppliers, he added.
Kyowa Casting supplies aluminum cylinder heads, component cases and tanks to Mitsubishi Motors, Mazda Motor and Nissan Motor.
In Japan, the company runs two diecasting plants in Okayama prefecture in western Japan with a combined output of 700 mt/month.
