Japanese brass maker Ohki Brass & Copper will halt production of extruded aluminium products on the back of falling demand, a source at the company said Thursday.
Ohki's aluminium production line at the Niiza plant near Tokyo will suspend operations on December 28. The company currently produces 30-40 mt/month of extruded aluminium products for electric appliances and housing materials, the source said.
The company has been forced to reduce operating days of its aluminium production line in the last few years on the back of falling aluminium extrusion sales, the source added.
Ohki uses aluminium alloy billet of 6063 and other grades to make extrusions. It sources its material mostly from Nippon Light Metal, a domestic aluminium mill.
Ohki plans to focus on brass products after suspending its aluminium production.
