Orissa Diary reported that the alumina refinery of Vedanta Aluminium Limited at Lanjigarh, Odisha has been conferred with the prestigious International Safety Award’ by one of the world's leading Health and Safety organizations British Safety Council, London. Vedanta has won this award with Distinction by securing highest marks in the category.
Vedanta’s alumina refinery strictly follows the OHSAS-18001 standards for its operations. With zero Lost Time Injury Frequency Rate the company boasts of having 19.8 million accident free man hours till March 2012.
Dr Mukesh Kumar president & Chief Operating Officer of VAL-Lanjigarh said that “Environmental protection and safety is an integral part of Vedanta’s business practices. We are consistently working towards achieving our goal of zero harm at the plant site.”
Every year, the British Safety Council runs prestigious award schemes which allow organizations to benchmark their performance and gain external endorsement of their health, safety and environmental management. This year 550 applicants were judged by a panel of independent health and safety professionals under three categories Distinction, Merit and Pass. The award ceremony would be held at London's Grosvenor House on May 18th 2012.
