PTI reported that Jindal Aluminum Limited has come forward to contribute a sum of INR 100 crore to Bangalore University for establishment of Dr Sitaram Jindal School of Economics (earlier proposed as Bangalore School of Economics).
This is in pursuance to the discussions the varsity's Vice Chancellor Prof N Prabhu Dev had with the Chairman and the Managing Director Dr S R Jindal last Friday. This was confirmed by the company through a letter. This contribution is subject to the University getting necessary approval under Section 35 AC/80G (2) (a) (iii) (f) of Income Tax Act among other conditions.
Mr Prabhu Dev said that the Bangalore University will provide the required land in Jnana Bharathi Campus here for construction of new Academic Building for establishment of the School. It is proposed to offer 4 year BS Course in the School on the pattern similar to courses offered by London School of Economics. The project would be completed within a period of maximum 5 years. The proposed School would be an autonomous body on the patter of London School of Economics and Indian School of Business, Hyderabad.
He said that this is subject to approvals by the appropriate bodies of the University. The study group with Vice Chancellor as Chairman and Mr Mohan Das Pai as Company Chairman has finalized the draft of the proposed School of Economics and the final report would be ready by November 10th 2011. The report would be submitted to the Governor H R Bhardwaj.
