India's Nalco has further decreased its aluminum output due as it continues to face a shortage of coal, though it has kept its alumina production unchanged, company sources said Monday.
On Friday, Nalco shut another 60 potlines at its aluminum smelter, taking the number of idled potlines to 120 out of a total of 960. The move deepens the smelter's run cut to 12.5% of its 460,000 mt/year nameplate capacity, from about 6% earlier.
The smelter was operating at almost full capacity before the first run cut began two weeks ago after heavy monsoon rains flooded certain open cut coal mines in the country, affecting local fuel supplies.
Nalco uses coal to generate power at its alumina and aluminum plants.

The Hindustan Times reported Monday that weather experts have described this month's floods as Orissa's worst in three decades.
