A major fire broke out in an aluminium workshop at Abids on Sunday afternoon. However, no one was injured. Though officials of the Fire Department are yet to ascertain the exact reasons for the accident , senior officials suspect that electrical short-circuit could have originated the fire.
Flames erupted from the aluminium workshop around 1.25 p.m. and spread to an adjacent optical shop. Five fire tenders from Gowliguda, Musheerabad, Malakpet, Moghalpura and Secunderabad were rushed to the spot after receiving a call to the fire control room. With the help of shopkeepers, firemen broke open the shutters with crowbars and entered the premises of the workshop.
Gowliguda Station Fire Officer N. Surendra Anand said flames were controlled within an hour and property worth over Rs.20 lakh was damaged in the incident. “We are yet to establish the exact cause of fire and efforts are on to collect more details from the shop owners,” he added.
