NALCO’s production capacity to go up to 2.1 MTPA by month-end

State-run NALCO’s alumina refinery capacity will be augmented to 2.1 million tonnes per annum by this month-end 。

NALCO currently has an alumina refinery of about 1.57 MTPA.

 NALCO added that Bauxite mining capacity of the state-run firm will also increase to 6.3 MTPA by the month-end from the existing levels of 4.8 MTPA.

However, upgradation of fourth stream of alumina refinery from 0.52 MTPA to 0.7 MTPA is unlikely to be completed by June, 2012, which was envisaged earlier, the the minister said.

Similarly, Bauxite mining capacity augmentation plan, which was to be increased by 0.52 MTPA by June next year, will also lag behind and the company has made an overall progress of about 50% only till date on both the projects, Patel said.
